Cakes and the like

Posted in Food, thoughts on 12/04/2014 by willsalt

These heading tags come out really weird…

The following is ‘my’ cupcakes recipe. It was sort of stolen from the BBC food website initially, but I’ve tweaked things.

Cupcakes

  • 165g butter softened at room temperature
  • 165g caster sugar
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract (2 is better)
  • 165g self-raising flour
  • 2 tbsp milk (more as much as is needed if it’s too thick)

  • 210g butter, softened
  • 420g icing sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

(I halved the icing, seemed to have enough)

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line an ammount of tin(s) with paper cases. I make 24, but your cases and tins may not be the same size.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until pale. Beat in the eggs a little at a time and stir in the vanilla extract. (Just put them in a food processor, works well enough.)
  3. Fold in the flour using a large metal spoon, adding a little milk until the mixture is of a dropping consistency. (Just add it to the food processor, it works well enough.)
  4. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until they are half full.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden-brown on top and a skewer inserted into one of the cakes comes out clean. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from the tin and cool on a wire rack.
  6. For the buttercream icing, beat the butter in a large bowl until soft. Add half the icing sugar and beat until smooth.
  7. Then add the remaining icing sugar with one tablespoon of the milk, adding more milk if necessary, until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  8. Add food colouring if you’re so inclined, or flavouring if it suits you and mix until well combined. I opted for a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Or was it vanilla essence? Something like that…
  9. Spoon the icing into a piping bag and pipe the icing using a spiralling motion onto the cup cakes in a large swirl, or whatever pattern suits you to be honest.

9 steps? How Tzeentchian.

Picture time. If these are familiar, it may be because you’re friends with me on facebook, or because they’re in the post that preceeded this one by maybe 20 minutes.

Cupcakes

Cupcakes! Piping Icing attempt 1 – Questionable success

Multi-flavoured cakes

Multi-flavoured cakes

Heh, there are some very weird pictures in my library…

And one of my other favorites, also the other recipe I routinely cook… It’s just the two really… I mean there’s the odd set of biscuits or scones or something, but they’re usually one offs.

Butterscotch sponge pudding

  • 120g self-raising flour (’cause I’m too lazy to get baking powder)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 120g sugar
  • 200ml milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 85g butter melted

  • 140g brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp Golden Syrup
  • 250 ml water

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C
  2. Sift flour, sugar, salt, & baking powder into bowl (note, flour, not flower as I initially mistyped, petals and pollen may upset the flavour, and it might nor rise so well) (oh, and you can just put this lot in a food processor too)
  3. Add milk, melted butter, whisked eggs, Vanilla Extract and whisk well
  4. Put mixture in greased dish
  5. Make topping by heating ingredients in saucepan until boiling
  6. Pour into dish
  7. Be astounded by the higher density of the butterscotch stuff causing it to sink below the sponge mix
  8. (If unintelligent people who don’t understand density are present) Proclaim yourself a magician/wizard
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes

That one I can’t find pictures of. It’s a recipe I got off my mother though, and she got it off of daytime television, ouring the butterscotch stuff (or whatever it is) through the cake mix amused her, so she had me make her one. The ‘original’ had bananas and something in though, so was completely inedible. This version is much better.

College, and expensive things…

Posted in Breakfast, Cats, Films, Food, JacksFilms, Jesus Christ Superstar, Molly, Music, PC, Pets, Rants, reminiscing, Sean Klitzner, Sodahead, tedium, thoughts, Tobuscus/Toby Turner, Toby Turner, Wendy, YouTube on 26/09/2011 by willsalt

Good evening.

I had my second day at college today, that was fun. Met Courtney Thompson and Kris… and there’s only one name there I know I spelt correctly.

And I got mother to buy me a computer. YAY! Expensive computer…

Molly bit  kitten! The Bitch! Well, she is a female dog. (It died 3-4 days later).

So, is paying £79 for a fancy case sensible? It’s certainly deceptive, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Hehe, I imagine it’s not my wisest decision. But I think it’ll be the most expensive thing I own, monitors £180… I think, Xbox was just over £200, Halo Reach just under £100… err, the safe was about £20… the bed’s not really mine, don’t know how much it cost though… current computer’s £450… Hi-Fi was expensive… but it’s nearly as old as my TV, which was I think around £100, now worth a lot less, it’s what, a 14” CRT that doesn’t even receive digital…

Err, the fish tank was quite pricey…

Anyway, not enough here. I shall continue this tomorrow, I don’t like posting 178 words.

Good evening, again…

I haven’t done any work on my bridging assessment since Tuesday, which is odd, because I’ve only got about two lines left, and I know what I’m supposed to say.

Interesting… It’s raining! In England!

So, I forgot my Game password. Then got my account locked trying to guess it, and now have to contact customer services. If they want me to phone them, I think I’ll just report the card lost, get a new one, and a new game account. It’s cheaper than phoning. Not sure it’s how you’re supposed to handle this sort of situation though…

Ahh, it’s nearly 8 hours later.

Sodahead is fun; you get to say things like this:

The death penalty is there for those who have supposedly lost the right to life, usually through some crime, such as murder.

Now, I’m not sure, but I think most foetuses aren’t mass murderers.

And:

I’d rather feed Rachael Ray to a starving Tiger. She’s got more meat on her, more nutritious. Not that I have any clue who she is…

Fun place.

Good evening. For the third time in one post, lucky you!

There’s a phone on my desk… well, there’s 3… but one of them isn’t mine. I keep getting told to phone people… Why is everyone so obsessed with Telephones? I prefer email. It’s much more polite, and usually doesn’t require actual speech, and you’re not trying to force them to correspond at a certain time. It’s just checking your emails whenever you like, and reply in your own time rather then “TALK TO ME NOWT TALK TO ME NOW! TALK TO ME NOW!” and yes, that’s quoting Stephen Fry with different formatting.

And I just chased a cat out of my room with a Katana… I also emailed the people I was supposed to phone.

And Emski’s supposed to be getting me a Morrison’s Application form… yay?

Now this is something I haven’t done for a while. Sitting in this chair, the sun coming through my window, roasting my left leg through a pair of jeans, and Jesus Christ Superstar playing on my computer.

I just toasted with a lamp and a glass of coke. I think the same glass I killed that keyboard with…

Hehe, so I’m working on the assumption I have a driving lesson this afternoon, I’ll find out when Simi returns. On foot, probably not, driving someone else’s car, either driving lesson, or he’s acquired a penchant for thievery.

A trick or two with lepers,

and the whole towns on it is feet

He is dangerous!

They say that second one a lot…

So, while awaiting Simis return, I’m eating Krackawheat, Crispy Wheat & Rye Crackers.

Ooh, that reminds me, I have to de-activate my blood bowl activation key… that’s weird… yeah, they’re one use, but you can un-use them… which I’ll need to do if I want to install it on my new computer; which should be dispatched in an average of 8.4 days! Well, 11.4 days from when it was ordered… and that was Friday I think…

Aww, they changed filter from the orange one to the blue one! And there are some very weird facial expressions…

Hehe, sorry, I’m commenting on Jesus Christ Superstar again.

Hehe, it’s Rick Mayal. One ‘l’ or two?

Okay, Emski, Simi, Mother and Father have gone on a little family outing. To Morrison’s. weird… then again, we have days out at Ikea, so I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s better than Alton Towers.

II feel like typing vast quantities of text, but I don’t have anything to say…Let’s look for inspiration. What can I see? Toby Turner on blog TV. The Powder Toy, Microsoft Word, with this in, and there’s an MSN chat window with Tom… err… yeah, only one of those is really interesting… But can’t really comment on that…

Anyway, I got a phone call today, that was surprising… doesn’t usually happen to me. It was an employee of somewhere asking me to work tomorrow… which means I have to be there at twenty to eight… hmm… working, good, something to do. And presumably money! YAY! But having to wake up probably before 07:00, which is less fun. I just heard a door closed and Emski running up the stairs… yay, free Ben & Jerries ice cream! Maths later…

Err… I’ve run out…  that was, what, 17g of protein, 127.5 g of carbohydrates and 63.75g of fat… this is a healthy day for me…

I’m glad I’m replacing this computer… it seems to be giving up at the moment…

And on that note, I think I’m going to post these three blogs…

Thanks for reading, ta-ta.

oversleeping, not driving, and not much else…

Posted in Driving, Driving Lessons, Food, Rants, thoughts on 28/06/2011 by willsalt

Good Evening.

I’ve annoyed myself now, I missed a driving lesson, because I overslept… yeah, that’s not good. I overslept, by about 15 minutes… which I suppose is my own fault…  didn’t get to sleep till after 5 because I can’t tolerate heat, and I trusted a phone to wake me up at ten.

That went well…

So now I’m annoyed… and don’t get parents wittering on about how I’m irresponsible, and shouldn’t miss things because then they live…

Yeah, I think I know it’s a bad thing, I missed the lesson… I wonder…

I have a plan, which I shall not discuss for now.

I sent him (driving instructor) an apologetic text… and probably amused benski with another one…

So now I have nothing to do again… how to pass the time? Sleep? I think I’ve had enough of that.

Yeah, I’ll go have lunch or something…

Thanks for reading, ta-ta.

Simi can’t debate, Reach, some youtube-ey stuff, and other things…

Posted in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - Limited Codex Edition, Benski, Driving, Driving Lessons, Family, Food, Friendlings, Halo Reach, iJustine, Matt, Rants, reminiscing, tedium, thoughts, Tobuscus/Toby Turner, XBOX 360, YouTube on 28/06/2011 by willsalt

Good evening.

Simi sucks at debating… yesterday he just walked out the room, then today he just took off his headset… (The latter being over Xbox live.)

Not really that good, glad I didn’t have to do Philosophy with him although I suppose that could have been entertaining, he just runs out the room when he realises he’s lost…

Anyway, today. Was boring.

Spent the morning on Halo Reach, not sure whether I should save up another about 14,000 for Black Visor, get JFO helmet, get commando helmet, or another 4,000 and get pilot helmet… those numbers may be wrong.

Challenges today are easy, well, were, I did the weekly in 10 minutes, 35 seconds. Although I suppose if it’d taken more than 12 minutes I’d have failed… Gingee and Simi just used the ‘Flawless Cowboy glitch’.  Got the 30 kills in multiplayer matchmaking in one round of Griffball, people seemed to forget what game type it was…

Creepy Americans and British/Alaskans are funny… (Youtube link.)

So are the other crazy Americans…

Anyway, what else? Had Dominos pizza… that stuffs awesome, unless you accidently leave mushrooms and onions on it, then it’s got disgusting stuff you need to pick off… but it’s still awesome.

I like pizza.

So, that’s my day. Pretty boring isn’t it. I have a driving lesson tomorrow though, so something interesting might happen there, but it does mean I have to wake up before 10:30… probably quite a bit before… don’t like being asleep during those…

Bleh, lots more youtube video still…

According to iJustine, her most commonly received question is ‘how do you vlog?’ well, judging from the comments I read, they’re generally either a lot more perverse, or more random-er…

Okay, that’d make more sense if you knew what Video I was watching…

Hmm, watching Philip Defeanco Show (link to relevant episode), yeah, I spend a lot of time on youtube, but apparently new york has legalised gay marriage, and is the 6th state in new york, was it? Err, why did that take so long? Didn’t that happen in most of Europe quite some time ago…

Hmm, he can’t pronounce names.

ran out of new youtube videos to watch… sad now… but I’ve only got 4 minutes to post this today, so I suppose that gives me something to do…

3 now. And I have to play with Hyplerlinks, comments, and other things that take mere seconds…

Thanks for reading, ta-ta.

Meat and Reach.

Posted in Food, Halo Reach, tedium, thoughts, XBOX 360 on 24/06/2011 by willsalt

Good evening.

I’m afraid I didn’t find something interesting to write about, all I did was not accept a delivery of various meats, because the delivery person didn’t even knock on the door, or signal to anyone in the house he’d arrived, and I played reach.

So yeah, nothing interesting to read about.

So, I’m going to have to leave you in whatever bored state drove you into reading this… thanks for reading, ta-ta.

Drunken american, Simi on Sins, (Of a Solar Empire) kittens that live, and other things.

Posted in Benski, Emski, Family, Father, Food, Games, Halo Reach, PC, reminiscing, Sins of a Solar Empire, thoughts, Tobuscus/Toby Turner, XBOX 360, YouTube on 19/06/2011 by willsalt

Good evening.

Drunken Toby is funny… and better at maths then sober Toby…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvoTqYysAe0&feature=feedu

Won’t bother embedding that… I’d have to highlight it and press a button…

So, I got Simi to install and play Sins today, he seems to approve. And rightly so, it’s an awesome game.

Went through a lot of the reach maps, exploring them in forge. A lot of them are a lil’ bit crap… and they have far too many respawn/initial spawn points. Team sizes go up to 8, why do you have groups of 18 initial spawns?

The Kitten’s still alive, needs help being watered, and fed. Father’s doing that. (Emski doesn’t want to accidently drown it, don’t know about Simi, but neither do I, and I’m far too cautious to do it properly anyway.)

So, thank you for keeping the kitten alive.

No pictures on yesterday’s post yet, because my computer still won’t recognize my MicroSD adapter. The icon for removable disk D flickers, but it doesn’t actually read it. People on yahoo answers say because the adapters are ‘notoriously unreliable.’

So that’s fun, and all I really have to say.

Thanks for reading, hope you had a good weekend, have a good week, or at least 2 weeks for you Emski, Ta-ta.

Pillar LASO, Cars, and nothing else really…

Posted in Benski, Breakfast, Family, Father, Films, Food, Friendlings, Halo Reach, Jeffrey, Mother, reminiscing, Sodahead, tedium, thoughts, Tom, Wendy, XBOX 360 on 04/06/2011 by willsalt

Good evening.

I completed Pillar LASO today, well, I say I completed it, I was there for the first 3 ½ hours with Simi and Tom, then Simi and I went to have chicken, and when we came back Tom had done it… so that was nice. And now I’m watching Kill Bill Volume 2.

We got through pillar a lot faster than last time, which was nice…

She got shot, how sweet.

So, I got partial non-legal ownership of a car today. I say non legal, it’s registered to my mother. So, thank you Wendy, much appreciated.

Hmm, good film.

But, yeah, that’s all that’s happened today… aside from that I’ve watched some youtube videos, said some stuff on sodahead, and err… that’s about it…

I lead a very boring life.

Had Bacon this morning though.

I really need to something worth writing about… or rather, ranting about.

But till that happens, I shall leave you with the following:

Penguin.

Thanks for reading, ta-ta.
